The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (25/8) is expected to hover positively in a limited span within the range of 5,250pt โ 5,375pt by support of ย stable USDIDR and oil close. ย Meanwhile, yesterday (24/8) in Wall Streetย theย DJIAย ended higher byย 378 points or 1.4%ย at 27,930pt , while the S&P500 and the Nasdaq both closed higher byย 1.0% and 0.6%, respectively. ย Wall Street cheered on the declining trend of new cases of Covid-19 as well as its vaccine progress.

By latest data (24/8), capital city Jakarta currently ranked highest for Covid-19 total cases in Indonesia, to contribute 22% of total domestic cases of 155.4k. The next highest provinces are of East Java, Central Java, South Sulawesi, and West Java, each contributed some 19%, 8%, 7%, and 6%, respectively, ย to total national cases.
Latest data also showed that weekly average for Positivity Rate(PR) for Jakarta city ย increased to the level of 10% (Indonesia: 13.4%), both of which is considered alarming by the international standard safe level of 5%. At the other end, on national basis, Jakartaโs PR is currently at 6.1% (Indonesia: 13.2%). ย A note however, that number of Test taken in Jakarta in the last week was 4 (four) times as much as required by the WHO.ย Nevertheless, the higher trend of PR for Jakarta city triggered cautious this week as the regional government need to decide whether or not to extent the fourth Transition Limited Lock-Down that end on August 27 .
Since the relaxing measure of Limited Lock-Down (PSSB) for Jakarta city in June 15, one clearly noticed new Covid-19 cases accelerated to the level not seen before.
Latest browse suggested that regional government is not that keen to get back to a full measure of limited lock-down as observed during March 11 to June 15 , mainly on economic impact of such measures.ย Meanwhile, at the other end, ย health communities urged the regional officials to put a halt on the Transition mode in order to return PR to a lower level.ย Aware of the increasing new cases recently, the regional authorities has geared-up compliance and sanctions to suppress new cases in the city.ย However, that seemed not to have been sufficient, as indicated by the latest statistics.
While many factors should come into consideration, an opinion of a shock-therapy to a full measure of limited lock-down ย to be re-implemented is not being exaggerated, in our note. One of the main benefits of this measure is to reduce complacency among residents in Jakarta and surrounding areas who generally underrate the harm of the new spread ofย Covid-19 can cause to both ย within the limited circle as well as within the country.
At the other end, yesterday ย the WTI price closed higher by ย 0.7% at USD42.6/barrel on supply worries as two storms hit the Gulf Coast. Meanwhile the ย USDIDR ย closed ย at IDR14.794 ย vs. IDR14.786 the previous one.
