The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (8/7) is expected to trade between 6,790ptโ€“6,920pt to attempt higher in support of bargain hunters. The JCI is expected to respond to the release of Indonesiaโ€™s 2Q23 GDP data by the countryโ€™s statistic office. The GDP figure is recorded to expand by 5.3% this year (1Q23: 5.03%) in the budget.

 

ย Meanwhile, Friday last weekย ย  (8/4) on Wall Street, the DJIA closed lower by 67 points or 0.2% to 35,066pt, while the S&P500 and the Nasdaq closed lower by 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively.

The US nonfarm payrolls for July added 187k units, or slightly below the estimate of 200k units. The unemployment rate was 3.5% in July, against a consensus estimate that the jobless level would hold steady at 3.6%. On the other hand, average hourly earnings rose 0.4% for the month, good for a 4.4% annual pace, both above expectations.

 

The 10-year US Treasury yield declined by 14 basis points to 4.042%.ย  Also, the yield on theย 2-year Treasury fell 12 basis points to 4.772%.

 

Last week, the price of WTI ย futures closed higher by 2.3% to USD82.8/barrel mainly on supply concerns along with the tendency of major producers Saudi Arabia and Russia for a further cut at any time. ย Meanwhile, the USDIDR closed at IDR15,168 vs. IDR15,198 ย the previous one.
