The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (5/11) is expected to be in the range of 5,935pt โ 6,050pt, to gain edge also by bargain huntersโ support. ย Meanwhile, yesterday (5/10), the DJIA closed lower by ย 35 points or 0.1% to 34,778pt, while the S&P500 and the Nasdaq both ended lower by 1.0% and 2.6%, respectively.
The JCI is expected to trade sideways and be strongly supported by latest release of consumer confidence index (IKK or โIndeks Keyakinan Konsumenโ). For the month of April this year, IKK is ย is recorded at 101.5pt (March: 93.4pt, April 2020: 84.8pt). Aprilโs IKK marks the first time that the consumer confidence level passes the 100pt spot which indicates level of general optimism (less than 100pt indictates level of general pessimism).ย The latest IKK has been consistent with the data of COVID-19 pandemic management progress in the country, which ย was officially acknowledged in March last year. Should Indonesia consumer confidence be sustainable months ahead, it would pave way for stronger economic growth this year, estimated currently by the central bank at an annual rate of 4.2% – 5.2% (1Q21: -0.94% YoY, -0.74% QoQ).
At the other end, yesterday ย the WTI price ended almost unchanged, +2Uscents, ย at USD64.9/barrel , mainly supported by ย threat of supply as Colonial Pipeline, the largest US fuel pipeline company, paused its operation since Friday ย following a cyberattack on its system.ย Meanwhile, the USDIDR ย closedย at IDR14,198 vs. IDR14,298 the previous one.
