The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (5/4) is expected to be in the range of 5,900pt โ 6,050pt, to fluctuate and supported by bargain hunters. ย Meanwhile, yesterday (5/3), the DJIA closed higher by ย 238 points or 0.7% to 34,113pt, while the S&P500 and the Nasdaq ended higher by 0.3% and lower by ย 0.5%, respectively.
Yesterday, the JCI was trading slightly worse-than-expected in-terms ofย consensusโ support level, which we reckon is linked to lower-than-expected inflation level in April.ย Aprilโs headline inflation rate is at 0.13% MoM (March: 0.08%MoM), lower than Bank Indonesia (BI)ย estimate of 0.18% MoM, and of consensusโ of 0.16% MoM.ย On an annual basis, the CPI rate in April increased by 1.42% YoY (March:1.37% YoY), lower-than BI estimate of 1.47% YoY and 1.45% YoY of consensusโ estimate. Aprilโs CPI to a large extent show that consumersโ spending is still in very cautious mode, which eventually to impact recovery pace.
At the other end, last week the WTI price ended higher by ย 1.4% to USD64.5/barrel , along with the smooth COVID-19 ย vaccination program both in the worldโs two top oil consumers, the US and China. Meanwhile, the USDIDR ย closedย at IDR14,467 vs. IDR14,453 the previous one.
