The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (12/20) is expected to trade between 6,550pt – 6,650pt to stick around also on the back of ย bargain hunters. Meanwhile, Friday last week (12/17), Wall Street ended with the DJIA closed lower by 532pt or 1.5% to 35,365pt, and the S&P500 and the Nasdaq Composite also closed lower by 1.0% and 0.07%, respectively. However, the US bond market seemed calmer to response with the yield of the reference 10-year Treasury note closed lower by a relatively-narrow 1.3bp to 1.389% ย in the last close.
The JCI Friday last week performed on the lower side of our estimated range and closed slightly higher in the green, by 0.1%. ย Total trading value at IDR13.7tr ย was within the daily average while total ย foreign funds amounted a slight net Buy of IDR136bn( a ย Sell of IDR82.7bn in the regular transactions).
With the current macro and pandemic indicators ย spot, stakeholders in the Jakarta financial market might be comforted again by the relatively- encapsulated nature of the countryโs economy.ย In 2008 and 2009, following the collapse of the low grade ย mortgage-backed securities in the US, Indonesia managed to post GDP growth of 7.4% YoY ( Central Statistics: 6.1% YoY), and 4.7% respectively, while Malaysia of 4.8% YoY and -1.5% YoY, ย Singapore of 1.9% YoY and 0.1% YoY, and Thailand of 1.7% YoY and -0.7% YoY, respectively. At the other end, last week ย ย the WTI price ย closed lower by 2.1% to USD70.9/barrel ย , mainly on demand concern along with the higher cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 in major countries. Meanwhile, the USDIDR closed ย at IDR14,343 vs. IDR14,343 the previous one.
