The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (2/19) is expected to be in the range of 6,125pt โ 6,250pt to incline for retreat for consolidation and being supported by stable USDIDR close.

On a release following its Board-of-Governors monthly meeting yesterday, chairman of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo stated that the central bank revises down the countryโs GDP estimate this year to the range of 4.3% – 5.3%.ย The main reason is the lower-than-expected last yearโs GDP growth which is at a contraction of -2.1% YoY ย versus government estimate of contraction of 1.7% to 0.6%.
In addition, during this monthโs meeting, the central bank lowers down reference rates by 25bp, to 3.5%, at the historic-low, in an attempt to boost demand.ย Also, BI decides to soften many other monetary tools, such as 0% (previously 10%-30%) down payment for purchase of new vehicles as well as properties, effective March until end of this year.ย All the while, to continue other strategies such as the infra-structure development of inclusive digital banking systems.
The latest accomodative monetary stance have been made possible also due to the stable current exchange and inflation rates. The stance is expected to increase confidence for both individuals and business sides and eventually overall economic growth, at a fortunate timing for the central bank to reverse the policy, we hope.
Meanwhile, in Wall Street the DJIA closed lower ย by 120 points or by 0.4% to 31,493pt, while S&P 500, and the Nasdaq closed lower by 0.4% and 0.7%, respectively.
At the other end, yesterday ย the WTI price closed lower by 1.0% to USD60.5/barrel as compared ย to the previous close, mainly on profit takings following the previous-days rally. ย ย Meanwhile, the USDIDR ย closedย at IDR14,059 ย vs. IDR14,019 the previous one.
