The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) today (4/22) is expected to be in the range of 5,950pt โ 6,100pt, ย to fluctuate and to incline higher although limitedly supported by ย bargain hunters. ย Meanwhile, yesterday (4/21), the DJIA closed higher by ย 316 points or 0.9% to 34,137pt, while the S&P500 and the Nasdaq ended higher by 0.9% and 1.2%, respectively. ย ย After the previous 2-day consecutive drops , the stock indices were reversing , also as more than 70% of S&P500 constituents reported earnings at an average of 23% upside to consensus estimates, as quoted from the media.
Domestically, COVID-19 new cases ย in the Jakarta city gradually improving with the latest Positivity Rates at 5%, an excellent spot as compared historically. ย Fundamentally ready for an economic upswings by current macro data, unfortunately present condition is still in the ย inflection point, with COVID-19 virus cases in other countries overshadowing the domestic potential, in our note. ย Cautious-optimistic approach view for the stock market is intact.
At the other end, yesterday ย the WTI price ended lower ย by ย 2.1% to USD61.4/barrel , mainly on the weekly crude inventories data release that showed an increase of 0.5mn barrels vs. the estimated drop of 3mn barrels.Meanwhile, the USDIDR ย closedย at IDR14,549 vs. IDR14,508 the previous one.
