Consumer sector in the Indonesia Stock Exchange annual performance last year pointed to -10.7%, as compared to the general market (-5.1%), Finance (-1.6%), Trade (-0.4%), Mining (+23.7%), Agriculture (-1.7%).ย We relate the under-performance , mainly to 1) the ย slower pace of growth in the 3Q20 as compared to those of Retail Trade sector, and Pulp & Paper sector, for example. Main Retail Trade sector earnings growth in 6M20, for example recorded at -122% YoY but decreasing to -30% YoY during the 9M20. 2) stakeholders highe expectation on the sector growth in the 1Q20.ย Food and Beverages Association had estimated ย at end of 1Q20 that the sector expected to grow by 4% YoY last year, against the actual 2.0% YoY as at end of June last year. Nevertheleas, given the current general optimism on global and domestic recovery the Association has estimated to sector to grow by 5% – 7% this year (2020: 4%, 2019:8%).
At the other end, yesterday ย the WTI price closed higher by ย 1.8% to USD52.2/barrel against the previous close, mainly supported by Saudi Arabiaโs pledge to cut output. Saudi Arabia last week ย pledged extra, voluntary oil output cuts of 1mn bpd in February and March as part of a deal under which most OPEC+ producers will hold production steady during new lockdowns.ย . Meanwhile, the USDIDR ย closedย at IDR14,058 ย vs. IDR13,938 the previous one.
